I've been researching smokers for the past few months and plan to buy a pit from one of the custom builders in the Houston area real soon. I noticed on the KLOSE website that the 20x36 square smoker is cheaper than the traditional round smoker of the same size. I am thinking of making the leap and get a Klose Smoker after about 15 years with a cheap offset. I see that one of the options is a 1/2" thick firebox. David Klose would not replace my firebox stating by not washing it out, that I voided the warranty and that is why the steel flaked off in sheets. I build my own firebox out of 3/8" pipe and I clean it more often but not every time, either with plain water or the leaf blower and I have not had any issues.
