A rough idle will almost never be caused by a restricted fuel filter. At idle the engine is using a small amount of fuel. If the filter can pass enough fuel for the engine to run at higher rpm, it will certainly pass enough for operation at idle. Petcock is clogged. OK, got tank cleaned out, carb rebuilt, and new fuel lines. Now it looks like the petcock is clogged up. I can put in to ON or RESERVE and cannot blow air through it so I'm guessing it's clogged. I've boiled it in water and lemon juice, and cleaned it out the best I can with a nail (it's clean where I can see up in it).

To clean/check it you have to remove the 2 bolts holding the petcock on the bottom of the fuel tank .. The fuel strainer on a TRX500 Foreman is inside the (brass) fuel hose pipe on the carb.
